FINANCING PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy is an investment in your current well-being and in your future. If you do not have health insurance, decide not to make an insurance claim, or if I am not on the provider panel of your insurance company, I will work with you to afford services.
Sliding Fees
I offer psychotherapy on a sliding fee scale. The fee for service is based on yearly household income, the number of dependents in the household, and the complexity of the presenting problem. You will be asked to provide documentation such as tax returns or pay stubs.
I will also work with you to set up a payment plan.
A Note on Health Insurance
Depending on the insurance plan, co-payments and yearly deductibles may be equivalent to out-of-pocket expenses. Check with your health insurance carrier to determine what these expenses would be.
For out-of-network reimbursement, I will gladly complete the paperwork required by your insurance plan.

Many psychologists have decided not accept health insurance. Conversely, many psychotherapy clients choose to not make insurance claims. Some of the reasons include:
Some links to helpful articles are listed below:
- Privacy and confidentiality are compromised when insurance companies request full access to confidential client records to determine continuation of services.
- The diagnosis of a “medically necessary” mental disorder becomes a part of permanent health records, having implications for future health or life insurance eligibility.
- Common reasons for seeking psychotherapy (e.g., relationship difficulties, work-related problems) are not covered by insurance. Therefore, a more severe diagnosis might be reported to the insurance company.
- Choice of providers are restricted and number of sessions are often limited.
